The Grand Hyatt Shanghai (Jinmao Junyue Dajiudian) holds the distinction of being the world's highest hotel, occupying the 53rd to 87th floors of the Jin Mao Tower, one of the city's most distinctive contemporary architectural icons. Situated in the heart of Pudong's Lujiazui financial district, the hotel offers guests stunning views (atmospheric conditions permitting) of both the Bund and Pudong's rapidly mutating space-age skyline, including the nearby Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center, which recenly overtook its neighbor as Shanghai's (and China's) tallest building. The hotel is a short walk from world-class shopping and dining as well as transportation connections, including the metro. The hotel itself begins almost half way up the Jin Mao Tower; express elevators whisk visitors up in no time. 555 suites, easily some of the most elegant in Shanghai, wrap around a circular atrium spiraling up the center of the hotel. All boast spectacular views. The hotel's decor blends contemporary Chinese design with Art Deco and Western-inflected futurism, evoking Shanghai's previous golden age as much as its exuberant, confident future-forward present.Even if a stay overnight is too much for your budget, the Grand Hyatt and Jin Mao are worth a visit. They're not cheap, but drinks at the 88th-floor Cloud 9 and its Sky Lounge are a fine way to sample Shanghai's high life. (in the world's highest bar). Pu-J's and several other lounges located on various floors offer a range of drink and entertainment choices, from mellow jazz to karaoke and dance. A number of restaurants, with standouts being Canton and the 86th floor's Club Jin Mao, which specializes in Shanghainese cuisine.
